Josefa Vaughan

“My formative and free classical art training since the age of eleven in Houston resulted in two decades of exhibitions before 1989 when my art shifted into more collaborative projects connecting gifted and vulnerable communities. During my tumultuous childhood I relied on serious art-making, a practice my mentor reinforced as a tool to help navigate me teenage wanderings. Through ArtSeed, I have found a way to give back to other children and youths the tools and perspectives I was very grateful to have been given. I will always be indebted to all the ArtSeed children and artists who continue to touch my life. They teach me to be at peace with (and thereby find miracles within) my own limitations, to try new things despite my fears.”

Aber van Bueren

ArtSeed has been one of the biggest inspirations in my life not only for the art it produces but for the greater causes that it works towards. I recall one year when I was a kid attending ArtSeed’s Fine Arts Summer Intensive when I came to the realization that art wasn’t about broken off sections such as music, writing, performance, and visual arts. It was about the collaboration between them. It was also about using other academic disciplines to inform our art. Because of the inspiration I gathered from all the talented and deep-thinking people at ArtSeed, adults and kids alike, I composed a letter to the arts high school I went to at the time. It was a call to have the school’s art departments do more collaborations with each other. From then on, the multidisciplinary view greatly impacted my way of doing art. And it all ties back to the education ArtSeed has provided.
Thor Hansen

My name is Thor Hansen, a veteran participant for ArtSeed. I will be in Nasu 那須町 Japan for enrichment of my arts creativity on April 19. I think of it as a satellite Art-a-thon!
The name of the piece is “Color Added.” I was inspired by the fact that color is added to farm raised salmon in their feed, which is what turns their flesh an orange color to mimic wild fish.
Aim Wonghirundacha

I used to make short films when I was younger and would love to make art again. This is my first Art-a-thon!
